New Carlisle is set to see its most intensive construction since the last street project in the early 1990s. These projects will include the remodeling and updating of the Town Hall as well as an extensive street project around town. The Town Hall is slated to have all new mechanicals, replacement of the windows with energy efficient windows and a new covered entrance on the east side of the building. Also included will be the replacement of the concrete sidewalk (east side of building) with a cast-in-place brick look pattern, along with a much asked for and anticipated town clock. Other building repairs will include tuck pointing, replacing the roof and other minor repairs.
Bids were recently awarded to Brown and Brown for the architectural work and to Bales Mechanical for the mechanical work. These bids were $255,800 and $86,975 respectively.
Many of the streets in town will see resurfacing or complete overhaul. Two of the extensive renovations include Dunn Road and Marvel Lane. The Dunn Road project will remove and replace the concrete from Race Street and continue west 470 feet. The Marvel lane project will resurface the existing road from Timothy to US 20 (Michigan Street). This project also includes adding a four-foot paved shoulder on the south side of the street and adding two traffic islands, one at the east end of the intersection of US 20 and Marvel Lane and the other at the intersection of the middle street that comes off of US 20 to Marvel Lane. When completed, this will finally give drivers a clear line of sight without having to turn their heads to see oncoming traffic-an improvement that has been long overdue!
Other projects
Although these projects may seem new, the New Carlisle Town Board, Public Works Director Pat Cummings, Town Engineer Roger Nawrot, and Town Attorney Bill Herrbach have worked for over a year to determine what projects need to be done, what the Town can afford, and what would be the best financing mix.
The total cost of all projects and capital purchases for this project will be $881,072. A Bond was sold to finance $700,000 of this project with the remainder coming from the MVH fund, C.E.D.I.T. fund, Cumulative Capital Development Fund, Cemetery Equipment Fund, and a portion of Major Moves Money.
If everything goes according to plan we should see some construction on the Town Hall within the next week or two, and streets within the next month. If you have any questions feel free to contact Pat Cummings.
